He makes me think of his father: in two or three years, Aaron Sorkin will put together a TV series where Charlie Sheen plays the (heretofore unmentioned) son of Jed Bartlett, who has somehow managed to become president...

    The Wasted Wing?It's happened before...

I don't feel like reading through 6 pages of comments but, I can attest that most retail stores will tell you to call the cops but not get involved. I've never worked fast food but have been told that from working in a drug store for several years.

At the same time, however, some common sense is needed. I'm pretty sure if I was in this situation, policy or not, I'd be stopping them. This isn't like one little slap and some yelling, this is a brutal assault. For that matter, I get the feeling that the person taking the video isn't an employee, just a hunch. If so, why the hell didn't they think to do anything but pull out their damn cell phone and video tape it? For that matter, they were laughing at one point which is just downright heartless.

Hmm... so if Microsoft's track record with Vista can tell us anything. I predict this should be ready around Christmas of 2009! :D All kidding aside, I don't see Apple resting on its laurels. As long as Apple continues to come up with new ideas, Microsoft is going to continue to play catch up.

It appears only on apps which are in your library......

Perhaps there will be some type of targeted advertising to go along with the rumored free MobileMe? Devices will now be tied to that possibly?

Reading what ? Someone trying to say TB is an evolution of Fiber Channel when it does nothing of what Fiber Channel is actually used for ? Have you even ever used Fiber channel ?

You really are hopeless! If you can't even figure out a hot link to a source article your opinions are worthless. Go away. Now.

Unless I missed it.Looks like Apple will be selling an External Bluetooth USB adapter too.

I looked it up on Apple's store and couldn't find it..

    Does Apple make that ?

That'll be the standard D-Link DBT-120 (or successor) which is the only bluetooth transceiver hardware officially supported by Apple (it's essentially the same as the built-in hardware)

Don't bet on it. IF AT&T gets them...trust me...the rates will go up.

Not if they're grandfathered in! AT&T has stated in their proposal papers to the FCC that they're going to honor the T-Mobile plans in contract even if they upgrade phones.

If it's connections to your laptop, that's a win right there. Once you've set up the other connected devices, you won't have to mess with them whenever you go somewhere with the laptop.
The only connection I want going to my laptop is power. Everything else needs to be wireless. That is winning, duh. ;)

    Ok, I'll play along.

It's a BEATLES branded iPAD (like the U2 Branded iPod from years ago).

    Number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9

I'm guessing, in that case, that it only comes in white. ;) (Only the real Beatles fans will get that one.)

I have a feeling TB is going to be the next Firewire: sure, it works, but USB is so much more dominant at basically the same speeds. But I don't really care at the end of the day...just something much much faster than USB 2.0 for my hundreds of gigs of data that I copy/move around a bit.

This couldn't be further from the truth. TB is so much more versatile than USB can really ever be with tons more speed

Part of the problem is the way they market it. There was such an emphasis on templates and graphic-intensive stuff when it was first demoed in MacWorld 2005 that it's hard to think it can be a good word processor. My first thought was how it looked 100x better than Microsoft Publisher.

Again, I think this latest rumor shows that Apple will address some of the perceptions (or misperceptions, depending on who you ask) by allowing people to dive into word processing mode and adding better search and research functions. It just might make me a convert.

I entirely agree with you on these points. Apple is barely marketing iWork at all, let alone in a way which would help people understand its value. At MW last January I made a point of mentioning the Mac owner confusion over what Pages does to one of the reps on the floor who was demonstrating the new version. He also happened to be on the Pages programming team. (Which game me an opportunity to show him a bug I'd found. :))

He seemed surprised to be hearing what I was telling him, and I wasn't entirely sure he believed me in the end, but perhaps this rumor reflects some understanding on Apple's part that they're not getting the message out about these applications, particularly Pages. Maybe they'll get serious about marketing in version 3.

One other thing, I think Apple ought to be bundling iWork with most if not all of their systems, and not necessarily because we like to get free booty. The more Mac owners used iWork, the more who would see the value in forking out for the upgrades. This is exactly how Apple already markets iLife, so why they're not doing this for iWork is just plain mystifying.

50%? Did you forget how much Macs cost? One of the main reasons Dell has such a huge market share is because they are so cost effective and come with great bundles aimed at the average person. 50% of computer users could never afford a Mac.

He also assumes that everyone else thinks like mac users.

But no, they can't announce it in June and release in September. This isn't software, this is a hardware refresh. Availability follows announcement by 2-3 weeks tops. Otherwise, you won't hear about it.

I understand what you are saying but remember that Apple was able to do it with the iPad, a product that has sold incredibly well during a time that it was less known than the iPhone itself. It could happen.

People keep saying that it might be a September release but it could arrive much sooner. AT&T admitted not knowing when the next iPhone will be launched. So it could be late July or mid August... or September but that would be awful.

One last thing. A lot of people waited for a white iPhone 4 (announced ten months before!) and it is still selling despite the fact that a possible refresh for the product might be around the corner.

I mean, if you want to differentiate your higher end products from the lower end ones, you ADD features to the higher end one. You DON'T remove features that were once standard for years on the lower end machine.
I've seen this in Yamaha keyboards - once upon a time all keyboards had MIDI IN/OUT/THROU, later (ca 2004 onwards) Yamaha removed this pretty basic feature from their low and mid-end keyboards so that they could not be used as controllers. The customers had to end up buying pretty expensive equipment in order to use MIDI connections.

    Marketshare matters.

Why? The biggest and the most obvious reason is that developing for and porting software to OS X becomes more attractive to developers. Greater market share also helps Apple in its dealings with major partners like Intel and Microsoft.

The other big benefit for consumers is that we may see more product offerings from Apple as the number of macs sold increases. How about that Mac media center everyone's been talking about? Or the fabled Mac tablet?

True, I was being pretty flippant with that reply.

Having said that, I was attempting to underline the point that marketshare is a percentage. Even an apparently low figure (even 5% which we're all hoping for is still a small percentage!) represents a sizeable market, considering the size of the computing industry in general.

Something just happened in the stats, we got a big jump and many teams too. Yet I don't think this is the whole catch up as we still miss points as a team and I still miss a big unit...

That was enough to get us to #58 though, just by a hair...

How much do you think this will cost? I would love to get one for my new laptop but I think it could be priced a little too high for a lot of us.

Good news, long time coming! lol
